State-of-the-art medical library opens without books
The University of Michigan's $55m renovation of the Taubman Health Sciences Library brings a range of new spaces and functions, but no books.

Ben Freed, writing on mlive.com, quotes Rajesh Mangrulkar, associate dean for medical student education, saying the new building 'will help usher in a new era of education for the medical school'.
"We were focused on creating a building for how learning will happen, not how it used to happen," he said. "We thought about education from the beginning and we let that influence how the design happened."
The new library features state-of-the-art technology, a wide range of small and medium-sized classrooms, spaces for students from a variety of disciplines to work together and a floor dedicated to hands-on simulated clinical practice - and a virtual cadaver to work on...
The books have been moved off-site, most are available digitally, and hard copies can be requested.
