The library, which is managed for the local authority by the Aneurin Leisure Trust, has been a beneficiary of funding from a Welsh Government Museums and Libraries grant and a contribution from the Welsh European Funding Office Convergence Programme, allowing the library to benefit from improved disabled access, a re-designed IT suite, a new community room and a complete internal re-fit, as managing director Anthony Hughes explains in a recent blog posting.
"Ebbw Vale Library will have a modern feel, without losing the traditional features of the historic building, with a mix of old and new. The refurbishment will transform service delivery at Ebbw Vale, enabling greater community involvement, improved IT facilities and providing an opportunity to increase our partnership work with a wide range of organisations.
"This is exciting news for library services in Blaenau Gwent. A fully refurbished library at Ebbw Vale will play a vital role in supporting the community. It will provide a valuable, multipurpose community space, with something for everyone and will enable us to transform the library, making it relevant to the community today, having a huge potential to change lives."
The interior design and refit is being undertaken by library design specialists Innova Design Solutions.
