Chief Adviser to Designing Libraries, Karen Latimer of Queen´s University Belfast, is one of the editors of New Libraries in Old Buildings: creative reusealong with Petra Hauke of  Humboldt-University, Berlin and Robert Niess of Chestnutt-Niess Architekten, Berlin.

Published by De Gruyter Saur in 2021, the book focuses on the difficulties and opportunities of revitalising old, derelict or abandoned buildings by turning them into libraries and explores, through case studies, the transformation of buildings which originally had a different purpose. The publication shows worldwide best practice examples from different types of libraries in historic environments, both urban and rural, while maintaining a focus on sustainability concerning the architecture and interior design.
