Newcastle Prep Primary School
The school's aim was to bring their library to life with the use of bright, contemporary colours and introduce a woodland theme to the space.
A touch of magic
The design was to be centred around the school’s bespoke storyteller’s chair and would need to showcase the room’s stunning period features, particularly the stained glass windows – a contrast between old and new. Fun, modern, functional furniture was designed to sit in harmony with the traditional features of the building.
Touch technology was designed within the shelving units to encourage the children’s independence when borrowing and returning books. The integrated technology we specified allows the children to scan books directly, which adds another sprinkling of magic to the library.
Multi-coloured LED up-lighting was used as well as a bespoke charging cupboard. Tactile carpets and a bespoke tree/bookshelf added a lovely softness and magic to the two rooms. The circular ‘hideaways’ provide a great place for children to curl up and read a book.
The school library is now known as ‘The Trove’ and is the heartbeat of the school. The Trove can be used as a calm reading space that also offers exhilarating and unique design features.
