Introduction

The Mapplewell and Staincross Village Hall, originally built in the 1920s as the Towncroft Working Men’s Club, has been a key community hub for decades. Recently, it underwent significant refurbishment as part of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council’s Libraries Refurbishment Programme, becoming the seventh branch to benefit from this initiative.

The newly redesigned library features an enhanced children's area aimed at fostering creativity and learning, alongside flexible work and study spaces for individuals and groups.

The interior has been updated with new carpets and comfortable seating to create a welcoming atmosphere. This improved design ensure that the Village Hall is better equipped to serve the evolving needs of the community.

Commitment to Community

This transformation was funded by Barnsley Council’s Principal Towns and Local Centres programme and a £100,000 investment from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund. These efforts underscore Barnsley's commitment to revitalising local infrastructure and enhancing community engagement.

The refurbished Village Hall now effectively meets the diverse needs of the community, bridging its historical significance with modern requirements for learning and social interaction.
