Description
Description
Worcestershire's "flagship" library. Building site was constrained by a boundary wall, which the architect overcame with an imaginative atrium design. Brick-clad exterior to echo a design feature of the old building and to match surrounding buildings. The atrium is a key design feature from the point of view of lighting, ambience and accessibility, with public artwork, display cabinets and exhibition boards. Accessibility features include tactile signs. A Council shop provides the public with direct access to all District and County Council services. Building designed to by energy efficient and environmentally friendly with full insulation and natural ventilation.

Winner - Public Library Building Award 1999 for the best new public library in the United Kingdom and Ireland, in the large new library category.
