Description
Description
The library has been designed to present a beacon of learning and imagination for the community and is reflected in the high profile presence of the new building. This idea is graphically presented with references to the surrounding Chiltern Hills, the historical importance of the woodlands and of timber. Beech has been used as a key material in the interior, complementing a cool, neutral palette utilising natural materials and maximising the use of natural daylight.
The graphic identity makes use of tree rings and a palette of fresh green and purple to reflect the beech woods and bluebells surrounding High Wycombe.
The Children's library reflects and builds upon the main library's branding concepts in a more playful and engaging way. The circular ideas have been extended to include spherical reading pods, trees and a tiered circular story area.
Flexibility is a feature of the building with many sliding partitions enabling rooms of different sizes and function to be created.
Additional features are: quiet study area, community rooms which are also use for delivering learning, a HeadSpace (teenage library) and museum display cases.
