East Sheen Library from the entrance
Description
Description
East Sheen Library refurbishment built around a New Way of Working concept.
Completed under a project management consultancy with JDS and Opening the Book which incorporated training the staff to work in the new environment.
Principal design considerations - how people moved through and used the spaces available, comfy attractive seating areas, books prominently displayed with lots of paperbacks and face on, the confinement of leaflets, posters and brochures to one small information booth, a childrens library demarcated by colour and design with a grown-up feel.
Furnishings and shelving are low, curved, spaced to allow easy browsing. Guiding is clear, concise and confined to bay headers and sections.
The entrance has been cleared except for some quick choice units, the counter moved away to allow people to get their bearings on entry and made smaller. Visually it is now possible to see across the library and to enjoy natural daylight.
