Artists Impression of Interior

Dawlish Library has been chosen to become one of the first

21st century libraries in Devon. The library has hardly changed since it opened in 1981 and is in need of a complete refurbishment to offer a more flexible space which meets the changing needs of the community. We want the library to provide something for everyone.

The building will be lighter and more welcoming and it will have great facilities:

an accessible, adaptable layout

all new furniture

redecorated walls, new carpets and new ceiling

a new glass lobby

attractively displayed stock

staff on hand to help you

self-service kiosks

computers with internet access

a space for young people

an improved children's library

study space

refreshment facilities

comfy seating for all.

The library is housed in a converted cinema building, and this project is providing the opportunity to replace the '80s suspended ceiling with barrelled vaulting which traces the curve of the original cinema's ceiling.
