Description
Description
Library, computing, audio-visual recording and viewing, archive and rare book store, research study facilities, wireless network.
The Library is entered from the ground level foyer of the new UCL SSEES building, with dedicated library stairs and lift linking all floors.
Semi-circular stack floors at first and second levels are in visual contact with reception on the ground floor and the lower-ground stack and reading floor across a fully-glazed lightwell- with glass ceiling over the lower ground. Staff are visible to readers (and vice versa) on three of the four floors, enhancing service and security.
The library is designed for low-energy passive ventilation, and provides a very quiet environment for readers. Lighting is sensor-controlled to balance with daylight, and the library has a raised floor for long-term flexibility.
