What is the course about?
Our Baroque Opera Project returns in 2022 with more scenes from Rameau’s Les Indes Galantes. We are delighted to welcome back Ricardo Barros, a specialist in historical dance and Baroque opera, for this production, which will feature scenes from this colourful and vibrant work: Entrées III (Les Fleurs) and IV (Les Sauvages). Our team of tutors is led by the musical duo of Fernando Miguel Jalôto and Judy Tarling, with Henrik Persson providing the all-important continuo tuition, and Nick Shaw, our vocal coach. We are seeking competent Baroque instrumentalists (flutes, oboes, bassoons, strings and continuo) and choral singers who are able to learn their lines before the course. The course begins at 4pm on the Monday and will culminate with a semi-staged performance in French in front of a paying public audience on the evening of Saturday 9 April.

What previous participants said about this course…
“Everything was amazing. I'm super proud of everything we've done and I've learnt so much about not only singing, but musicianship and baroque theatre and it was all honestly the best.”
“I found the content of the course to be excellent. The tutors, musicians, directors, conductor, dancer, costume person, kitchen, food service, administration, management, and support staff, (and any others involved), all did an amazingly good job. I thought that everyone put in well over 100% effort and commitment, during the week, and also they must have done a huge amount beforehand in preparation for the course. I was astounded that, largely because of all the preparation and obvious love of the music/project, we were able to put together such a great Opera performance in such a short time. Thank you to everyone.”
