The new library is in the centre of Bakewell, and replaced a terrapin building. It is open 6 days a week and offers the full range of services including public computers with free Internet access, music CDs, DVD/videos. There is a readers' group, story time and a weekly class for basic skills students.

Funding came from a variety of sources: Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council and the Peak National Park. £14 million from the Government¿s Challenge Fund, Rural Challenge and European Regional Development Fund
