The Core, Solihull - opening soon!

Solihull Council has unveiled ‘The Core’ as the new name for the Central Library, Arts Complex and Solihull Connect building.

18 January 2016

The Core will not only house the library, theatre and Solihull Connect, but also a Community Advice Hub and a number of Voluntary and Community Sector organisations.

The Council has spent £2.3 million on refurbishing the building, which is currently on-going, as part of its strategy to co-locate and improve services. The Core will provide a better layout for both staff and customers, and offer Solihull residents access to a range of information and advice agencies, in one central location. The refurbishment will be completed by the end of February.

Councillor Bob Sleigh, Leader of the Council, commented: “Having spent £2.3 million on this fantastic community facility in Solihull, we felt it was appropriate to give it a new name. I’m delighted to unveil The Core. The name reflects not only its location in the heart of Solihull town centre, but also its important role in the local community.”

Councillor Karen Grinsell, Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities and Partnerships, added: “The Core is a brilliant example of how Solihull Council is investing in the borough’s libraries and culture. Once it is completed we will have a flagship community building fit for the 21st Century.”

The Voluntary and Community Sector organisations that will be located in the building are: Action for Blind People, Age UK Solihull, Aquarius/SIAS Alcohol Service, Citizens Advice Solihull Borough, Colebridge Trust, Community Advice Hub, Relate and Solihull Borough Talking Newspapers Association.

The Core also houses the new Encore café bar, offering both hot and cold food, including pre-theatre meals. The new café has an increased number of covers and improved access for wheelchairs and pushchairs.
