Library Design Showcase 2015

'American Libraries' has published its 2015 showcase of the best new library buildings and renovations, celebrating the past and adapting to the present.

4 September 2015

The feature showcases three examples of the renovation of historic buildings, and three further examples of repurposed spaces, including the Southeast Branch of Nashville Public Library, above, in a former department store.

There are further examples of the use of shared spaces, and library spaces fro kids and teens.

The libraries selected in both the higher education category and public libraries illustrate how learning spaces are changing, incorporating maker-spaces and 3D printing.

Many of the buildings harmonise with the surrounding environment, bringing a new perspective to the roles and identities of libraries.
