The state of America's libraries

The journal American Libraries explores the issues affecting public, academic and school libraries, indicating a direction for the future.

25 April 2014

This lengthy feature explores many of the issues - and initiatives - affecting libraries throughout the US, detailing ways in which libraries are addressing their future. Many of the articles will be of vital interest to librarians in the UK and worldwide.

Some of the topics covered include community engagement, social networking, outreach and diversity.

The special feature on library construction and renovation includes this quote from Les Watson (author of Better libraries and learning spaces): 'I think we will see a diaspora of places that would have been libraries but for which the name can no longer be applied - libraries as integrated service centres, libraries as media centres or mediatheques, libraries as learning communities.'
