The new Halifax Central Library, Canada, will be a civic landmark as well as centrepiece for Halifax, a contribution to the economic revitalisation of the city, and a new ‘hub’ for cultural activities. The building will also be socially, economically and environmentally sustainable.
Lustrum has won the tender to provide shelving for the new library, due to open in October 2014. Lustrum was chosen as the products represent the best of Scandinavian design, functionality and quality. Littbus, an innovative, flexible, complete shelving system, has been selected for this prestigious project. Lustrum will supply white shelving on two floors and black in the local studies section.
The building is a collaboration between Fowler Bauld & Mitchell Ltd. of Halifax and Schmidt, Hammer Lassen of Denmark and recently American news and television network CNN included the project in its list of 10 eye-popping new buildings of 2014.
The new Halifax Central Library is the most significant public building to be built in Halifax in a generation, and will represent the diverse communities, talents, and creativity of the residents of Halifax throughout the municipality and present this to the world.
