2013 Library Design Showcase

'American Libraries' celebrates this year's new library designs, featuring stunning architecture, teen tech areas and flexible, collaborative spaces.

The survey looks at trends in architectural design across the US, the use of outdoor spaces, creating youth areas and hi-tech facilities, reuse and restoration of buildings.

There are features on small libraries and school libraries, and some interesting examples of the flexible and collaborative use of library spaces.

This issue covers the 2013 Library Building Awards. There is a separate article on collaboration in the library design process and one about extending the boundaries of disability access that considers the needs of 'plus size patrons', a growing problem...
