The Duston School
The revamped library, The Hub, has become central in helping students learn and enjoy the concept of study and work.
An award winning library
A flexible space with furnishings that can be easily constructed and deconstructed – no special tools, no special skills, no strong staff or students required! The versatility of the space means that The Hub is now used to host Awards evenings, parent evenings and the school Christmas Fair.
To create a truly welcoming space Demco specified funky furnishings, bright bean bags and multi-coloured pods to sit alongside traditional study tables and chairs. The matt black shelving looks stylish and contemporary, with a bookshop feel and a good balance of face on display.
Individual 'quick pick' display units are placed throughout the library so books are strongly featured but not the sole centre of attraction.
With a 90% occupancy on most days, The Hub fulfils the school motto – 'to make our best better'.
The Duston School library was the 2012 winner of SLA Library Design Award.
