North Tyneside Council has given the go-ahead for the redevelopment of the vacant Co-op building on the site to create a 50,000 square foot library and community centre with three new retail units on the ground floor.

The report in the News Guardian says that the current Wallsend library will close and move into what will become a shared services facility incorporating the council's customer service centre within the retail site.
