31 January 2013

Helsinki University Main Library

The library was opened to students, researchers and, as with all Finnish university libraries, the public in September 2012.

This extensive profile of the library is well illustrated with photos and covers the vision and design concepts for the new space, the key design concerns, the competitive commissioning process, and the creation of flexible and covertible interactive spaces. It also addresses the impact of technology on the design and on collections management.

This issue of the Newsletter also contains articles on redesigning library space for co-working and on the new ISO international framework for library planning and construction.
