City library to move to Wakefield One

Wakefield Central Library is to move to a new shared services location in the council's civic offices building.

14 March 2012

The city centre library service currently occupies two locations: the main lending library in Drury Lane and the Balne Lane Local Studies, Reference Library and administrative HQ. Both sites are planned to close, with the services combined at Wakefield One.

The new library will benefit from new furniture and stock. But there is a significant amount of material to be transferred to Wakefield One, in particular the library reserve book stack and archive material. Some lending stock will also move to the new library along with essential pieces of furniture. Harrow Green, the specialist library and archives relocation company, is undertaking the planning of the physical move.

Wakefield One is the Council’s new civic office building incorporating the library and its administrative staff, offering customers one point of contact for a range of Council services, all under one roof.
