Green library in a simple box

The two-storey Taipei library could redefine how buildings are designed in Taiwan in the future to reduce energy consumption.

Taipei library engineering consultant Hu Shiang-Ling has designed the Solar Library and Energy-Optimized House as a branch of the Taipei City Library.

It may be Taiwan's first "solar house", an increasingly popular form of architecture in Germany that puts a priority on green credentials through the use of renewable energies and energy-saving features.

The building itself is a nearly airtight box covered in solar panels and stands out amid the older buildings...
