The work modernised the main library giving it a 21st century look and feel. As the library is visible from the street to the side and rear of the building it was important to give out positive messages.
A reduction in counter size and the introduction of RFID has created a more flexible space and allows staff to interact with customers.
The provision of meeting/class rooms on the first floor along with an Open Learning Centre (Community Education provision) and a Local Studies Resource Centre demonstrates the commitment to community development in the area. Tutoring of pupils excluded from school through no fault of their own takes place in the building and provides much needed social contact for those pupils.
