This exciting project transformed two separate buildings, Penylan Library and Roath Community Hall, into one large, integrated building: Penylan Library and Community Centre. The existing library was demolished and the Community Hall extended to house a new and larger, two storey library. This integrated facility links to the Council's efficiency programme.
The design consisted of a combined entrance/reception servicing both the Community Hall and the Library. Improvements to the Community Hall side included the addition of a children's facility with protected outdoor play area, and an increase in the number of meeting and community rooms on the first floor.
The scheme also included external improvements and an increase in parking provision.
